Well, here we go again, folks. Anbernic, the little engine that could in the world of retro handheld gaming, has hit a snag. Thanks to the latest round of tariff tinkering by the powers that be, they’re putting the brakes on shipping their nostalgia-packed devices from China to the US. It’s a bummer, but hey, they’re still flogging what’s already stateside, so all’s not lost… yet. 🙂
“Due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all orders shipping from China to the United States starting today,” Anbernic dropped in their announcement. They’re nudging customers towards their US warehouse stock, which, for now, dodges the import duty bullet. Smart move, but it’s a temporary fix at best.
Remember the good ol’ days when you could pick your shipping origin to sidestep customs headaches? Yeah, those days are on hold for US buyers. This policy shuffle might also mean missing out on Anbernic’s next-gen gear unless they sort something out. It’s a tough break for retro enthusiasts stateside.
The tariff tango isn’t new, but it’s gotten messier. With exemptions here, semiconductor tariffs there, and the “de minimis exemption” getting the boot, it’s a jungle out there. Not every company can swallow those extra costs like big players can. Here’s hoping Anbernic finds a way back to US shores soon. Until then, keep those emulators warm, folks.
