Asis P305 and HTC "Star Trek" - Clamshell design Smartphones

At the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona this week, we can expect a number of Windows Mobile announcements. And to get things started, two clamshell design Windows Mobile smartphones are being premiered!

Asus P305: Smartphonethoughts has a posted nice large picture and some press release details on the recently announced Asus P305, a clamshell design smartphone running Windows Mobile 5.0.

"The mini-SD expansion card slot also allows for additional memory for storing a wide range of content including music, games, photos and video. With 3G capabilities along with the power and functionality of Windows Mobile 5.0 in a small and sleek form factor, the P305 offers endless hours of fun while serving as mobile business companion."

i-Mate Smartflip: And Engadget has posted an image of the i-Mate Smartflip, which is the first release of the HTC "Star Trek," a device that is rumored to have almost identical dimensions to the Motorola RAZR. Initial rumors were the HTC "Star Trek" would be released in March. Let's hope things stay on schedule.

The::Unwired have a great collection of pictures of the newly announced ASUS P305. Click here to see them.

From these pictures, design-wise this phone looks a little conservative -- so in some ways a safe choice.

Notice the music buttons on the outside of the clam-shell?
Notice the SDMini slot on the side?

Very functional!

Here's another picture of the HTC "smartflip." Notice how the keypad is the same flat metalic look as a RAZR?

See more pictures, here.

I'm probably overstating it, but I think this could be the phone that breaks WM 5.0 OS to the mass market.

i-mate phones can be bought from their website (http://www.imate.com/), and used in the US. So, if you don't mind paying a premium and that there are no release delays, you could have a sleek sexy i-mate Smartflip in a few weeks!

Let us know when you get one! We'll all want to buy you a beer and have a look. biggrin.gif

i-Mate is not associated with any phone company per se. They just sell phones and pocket-pcs. In the USA, you should be able to get an i-mate phone to work with either Cingular or T-Mobile as they are the 3G carriers here.
